How to Style a Cropped Trench Coat for a Polished Everyday Outfit

Earlier this month, I wrote about how a trench coat can be an unsung hero of winter outerwear for a number of reasons. Today, I’m continuing to show the trench coat love but in a… shorter, more spring-forward, way.

Meet my latest jacket obsession, this cropped trench coat from ZARA. Even though the groundhog predicted 6 more weeks of winter, the weather has been very forgiving here in Nashville, which had me reaching for this cropped trench immediately. The details on this jacket are just too good to ignore, from the balloon hemline and classic lapel collar, to the split back and tab detailing on the sleeves, it’s the perfect mix of trendy yet timeless (my favorite kind of mix!).

I also love the versatility of a coat like this. You can wear it almost anything while ensuring it doesn’t hide the lower half of your look. Here, I’m wearing it very casually with a great pair of blue jeans and some classic slingbacks, but it would look killer over a dress or even a long skirt for spring!

This cropped trench coat is the perfect modern update to a classic wardrobe staple, and I highly recommend adding it to your closet as a transitional piece this spring!

  • How To Wear Chocolate Brown

    How To Wear Chocolate Brown

It actually shouldn’t be surprising that I love chocolate brown as a color considering I am a lover of all things chocolate in snack form. But there is something that I just love about chocolate brown on my body — clothes, shoes, accessories…ALL OF IT. (Am I dramatic?). I have so many chocolate brown outfit ideas thanks to these pieces!

BEANIE | I’ve been wearing my Rebecca Minkoff traveler beanie since 2019. I went INSANE over this beanie. I needed it in every. single. color. But now, I’m kind of over it? So on the hunt I went for new slouchy beanies. I found this beautiful one in chocolate brown (may or may not have ordered two other colors too). Cannot WAIT to get my hands (head?) on it!

CASHMERE TURTLENECK | I will argue until my last breath that there is nothing more luxe than a cashmere sweater. Especially when it’s chunky. So a chunky BROWN cashmere turtleneck? Say less.

SUEDE BAG | You know I’m a big bag girl (especially for work). So this suede carry all caught my eye immediately. I got this bag not too long ago, so it just didn’t make sense to add another similar style to my collection. But I NEEDED to share because you can’t beat this price (under $100)!

BELTED COAT | Because I bought the cashmere beanie in brown, I was like “Hmm, do I ALSO need a brown jacket”? I shockingly don’t own a chocolate brown coat, so this one might be at the top of my list — under $250!

JEANS | I ordered a pair of chocolate brown denim from Gap that are sold out now, but I needed to share another pair with you. These are the definition of cool girl, and I LOVE the drawstring waist.

FLATS | These flats are very chic. I’m typically a ballet flat girlie (bow and all), but these are screaming minimal. I love the shape of them too. I know this post is all about chocolate brown, but I’m kind of torn between chocolate and chestnut!

SCARF | I have a pretty nice scarf collection. But I was (obviously) missing a chocolate brown one. After searching I finally landed on this one because I’m a sucker for anything boucle — on sale too!!

SHOULDER BAG | As much as I love gigantic bags, sometimes ya just need a smaller one. I love that this one is still a good size and can be worn on the shoulder or as a crossbody!

SUNGLASSES | This one is kind of a cop out because they are tortoise vs chocolate brown. BUT it compliments chocolate brown SO well. So *hair flip*. I wear my black Celine sunglasses TO DEATH, so I’ve actually surprised myself that I haven’t bought the tortoise ones…yet.

PUFFER JACKET | I bought my first Super Puff in 2021 and I still love it so much. But sometimes I just don’t need a super warm long coat. Since I’m on such a chocolate brown kick though…I decided to invest in the liquid shine Super Puff (selling fast!!! but also available in Hi Gloss), and I cannot wait to wear this. I feel like it’s a really, really cool jacket!

  • Tips For Shopping The Nordstrom Sale

Tips For Shopping The Nordstrom Sale

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale…and now it’s almost here! I’ve spent a lot of my blogging career covering the Nordstrom sale (anyone remember those days?!). I’m back again to help be your source on navigating the sale, and how to get the best of buy now wear now plus the best of the fall season. Think: highly edited, on trend, and above all… STYLISH.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is almost here. If you’re shopping…there are some tips you need to know.
Right now, a lot of people are talking about the sale. It’s been this way for years!! I wanted to share some tips for you to use while shopping the event, and also some styling tips as we look ahead to fall. The sale is always such a big deal because Nordstrom offers brand new fall pieces at a discount before the first signs of fall even start! The kicker? It gets marked back up to full price in August. My biggest tip is this:

Focus on items you just know will sell out.

If there is something you know you want, get it. Or it might not be there the next time you’re browsing. A great feature Nordstrom gives us is the ability to browse and build a wishlist. This way, when the sale goes live you can just add it to your wishlist and check out! It’s that easy!!

Everyone loves denim as much as I do, right? One thing I think Nordstrom does exceptionally well is their denim selection. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was actually the reason why I bought a pair of premium denim with my own money (10 years ago!!) — they were a pair of black ripped skinny jeans from Paige and I loved them so so so much. Now, the shapes have gotten looser and more casual, these caught my eye. Plus, their best selling fit — the Hustler — is here!! Longer lengths are still trending. I’m loving these and these. Don’t forget about denim jackets! Since I have so many pairs of jeans, I’m looking for a funky pair. This pair from Rag & Bone look awesome — and now they’re on my wishlist.

Spoil yourself!! I think shopping for little luxe self care moments is very important. Why not take advantage of a great sale!?

When Le Labo is on sale you buy it.
I’m already halfway through this Salt & Stone body wash, so love that this duo pack is on sale!!
You know how much I love U Beauty (full review here)- I couldn’t recommend this little set to start your obsession more.
The Oribe dry texturizing spray is one of the most luxurious hair care product I owned. It’s expensive!! I can’t wait to stock up on this during the sale. If you’re looking for a less expensive texture spray, I typically use this one ($15).
These candles always seem to sell out, so I recommend getting the duo — one for you and one for a gift (or for later)!!
Because we all deserve to be comfy cozy.
The trends are still trending. Barn jackets haven’t gone anywhere. In fact, they’re still going to be everywhere. I am DYING over this Levi’s barn jacket. The cognac is on my wishlist!! This Veronica Beard one will absolutely sell out. We’re also still seeing a lot of Western inspired pieces like this studded bag, this card holder, and this fringe jacket. Oh and moto boots are still in too!

Coats and jackets are always top of mind for shoppers. This Ralph Lauren jacket looks absolutely perfect for transitional weather. The color is so luxe!! This Reiss coat is bound to be a favorite. I do love me a looooong wool coat.

As soon as you can shop, do it. It’s much more efficient, plus you’re already doing the work to add things to your wish list so you know what you want!!

Stock up on basics. Everyone says this, but I really do believe it. Get socks, underwear, denim, coats, and skincare/makeup now!

If something is sold out… Add the item to your cart anyway (even if it’s in another size). This will allow you to keep the item top of mind and easy to check on every couple of days. I always find that inventory is all over the place during huge sales, so there’s a good chance your size will pop back up one day.
